NEW BLADE-SERVER OF DELL
The new rack-mount PowerEdge 1655MC uses 50% less space than a conventional server, and requires a much smaller number of communication cables. The new server is made within the strategy of Dell to introduce high-tech solutions in the Class low-end. In particular, 1655MS supports connection of the UPS in the hot swap extending up to six dual-processor modules, designed to work with RAID-SCSI-disk array and is equipped with an integrated control system.
According to representatives of Dell, the new server is 30% cheaper than traditional rack-mounted servers format 1U. In addition, 1655MS software uses Open Manage software, which allows system administrators to manage hundreds of blade-servers simultaneously. The cost of basic kit with one blade-server is 3300 U.S. dollars, the server is optimized to work with Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Red Hat Linux.
C using the PowerEdge 1655MC Dell is trying to capture the growing market for blade-servers. According to a study conducted by the corporation Gartner Dataquest, sales of these servers will grow from 85,000 units in 2002 to one million in 2006. Revenues from sales of such products in this period will be 1.6 billion dollars.
