Today, near the town of Meghri in Armenia the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Meghri hydropower plant, annual capacity of 130 MW and annual generation of electricity - about 800 million kWh

According to the agreement between the governments of Armenia and Iran agreed Meghri HPP construction, which will be located on the border between Armenia and Iran Arax River, calculated for five years.

Today began construction work, including site preparation and delivery of the necessary equipment.

At the groundbreaking ceremony of the plant was present, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Minister of Energy Armen Movsisyan, the other members of the Cabinet of the Armenian government and the Iranian Energy Minister Majid press key. The energy ministers of Armenia and Iran signed an agreement on the beginning of the construction of power plants, and then placed the document in the foundation of a new power plant.

Recall that in June as part of the agreement between Armenia and Iran agreed Meghri HPP construction on the border river Arax was scheduled to begin in August 2012. Earlier it was planned that the construction of Meghri HPP will begin in August 2010.
