The world#39;s largest manufacturer of handheld computers, the Taiwanese company High Tech Computer (HTC) is going to consider moving production facilities to China only after the volumes PDAs reached four to five million pieces a year.


President of High Tech Computer XTCho told the online newspaper DigiTimes, that his company will be able to achieve such production volumes not before 2004 or 2005. It is planned to produce about two million handhelds. Cho said that in the case of moving production to China, HTC factory will be built close to Shanghai, where the company most Taiwanese notebook manufacturers.


In addition, Cho denied reports that HTC#39;s own share in the Chinese firm Dopod Communication, commissioned by which it produces communicators Dopod 686. According to Cho, the owners of the company are Dopod chairman HTC Chezhu Wang and the Chinese state-owned enterprise Chinese Electronics Corporation (CEC). Dopod 686 smartphone went on sale in China in August 2002.


According to the forecast HTC, only during the first year of production of this device production volume reached 100,000 units.
