SEVERSTAL ACTED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS AT CHERMK

the environmental press tour held on September 27 at the Cherepovets Steel Mill (CherMK), Severstal `` presented projects that will result in a number of environmental indicators to the global level by the end of 2015. Only in 2012, the company plans to invest in their implementation of the order of 1 billion rubles.

Air, water, solid waste - all areas of its environmental protection activities #39;Severstal#39; presented during the press tour through the major projects of environmental programs.

`During the press tour, we wanted to show the concentration of our efforts, which include the reduction of inorganic dust and hydrogen sulfide into the air - said Anton Kol#39;tsov, head protection, safety and environment division of Severstal Russian Steel` `. - To date, these two substances are problematic for us. By implementing the planned investment projects to inorganic dust and hydrogen sulfide, lead CherMK concentration of these substances to the norm #39;.

As part of the tour were three major projects to reduce emissions of inorganic dust, which are realized in steel production. This construction of capture of fugitive emissions from the converters? 1-3, worth about 3.6 billion rubles, the reconstruction of gas cleaning blast furnaces? 2 - 850 million rubles, and the rotating furnace?

7 dolomitic lime-shop - 340 million rubles.

In addition to these activities, and in order to reduce the emissions of inorganic dust, a project for the reconstruction of aspiration in the agglomeration process, the value of 840 million rubles.

`These activities, with a total investment of nearly 5.5 billion rubles will be completed in the period up to 2015. As a result of their implementation CherMK create the most advanced aspiration system, allowing to deduce performance exhaust gas cleaning in steelmaking and sinter production at the level of the best world practices#39;, - said at the end of the tour CEO Division `Severstal Russian Steel` Alexander Grubman.

The company also presented the interim results of efforts to reduce emissions of hydrogen sulfide. To solve this problem Severstal `` cooperates with the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. Within three years of the project have been studied global best practices, identifies the main sources of the emissions at the site.

On a specially designed area in the blast furnaces held about 180 pilot experiments performed more than 2000 measurements of sulfur compounds in the air. By the end of 2015 is expected to achieve a desired result in this matter.

During the press tour #39;Severstal#39; presented as projects targeted program on water.

Since 1995, the Cherepovets Steel Mill operated single flip water system, which includes ponds, clarifiers, a single filter station and 60 local working cycles. Creating such a system, which currently is 98.65% of the water used for the needs of the plant, possible to eliminate the previous 5 years 10 issue from wastewater. Until the end of 2012 CherMK through the construction of two new pumping stations with a total cost of 285 million rubles, will close two more flow of melt and rain water.

As a result of the project snowmelt and storm water in a volume of 200 thousand m3/year will be sent to the wastewater treatment plant and back into a revolving cycle CherMK. By the same amount will be reduced consumption of river water to recharge (replenishment) working cycles.

New initiatives in the field of solid waste management #39;Severstal#39; perspective presented by the construction of the line industrial briquetting of waste. Line output 100 tonnes per year briquettes intended for recycling steelmaking and their use in the form of briquettes in the production of steel. It is assumed that the production line will replace expensive components of the charge (flux ferruginized magnesia, metallozavalki). Construction of the line will provide a dual effect will reduce the cost of steel and thus significantly reduce the area for waste storage.

The project, worth 492 million rubles, is included in the strategic investment program.

`Systematic and extensive work to reduce the environmental burden the company began with the elimination of open-hearth furnace steelmaking, - Alexander Grubman. - Today, environmental management is a priority in our work. Presented during the press tour projects - this is only part of the environmental performance of the company. Environmental program in 2012 also includes a long list of activities for the repair gas cleaning, suction and water purification equipment - there are more than 40 `- said A.Grubman. According to him, except for special environmental protection measures, the company is implementing projects to upgrade basic production assets, the introduction of new technologies that will eventually also have to give environmental benefits.

Among these projects - the reconstruction of coke oven battery? 7, which will be completed in the first quarter of 2013.

KB? 7 almost rebuilt on the site of the old unit, which was completely dismantled to the base plate. Coke oven battery is designed to meet the latest technical developments in the field of environmental protection.

In particular, one of the main activities of the reconstruction will be construction of a dust-free coke (such facilities are already equipped with three of the eight coke-oven batteries in the future they will be retrofitted with all units). Due to the construction of the complex environmental sites and install modern systems of aspiration dust emissions into the atmosphere would be reduced by about 20%.
