INDIAN withdraw TWO NEW COTTON BIOGIBRIDA

Committee for Genetic Engineering (KPGI) at an emergency meeting last Friday approved the removal of two new biotech cotton hybrids of Nuziveedu Seeds, namely NCS-145 Bunny Bt and NCS-207 Mallika Bt, in the southern and central India. KPGI was to hold a meeting on June 5, but at the request of industry representatives seed industry had it before. The reason is the fact that the planting season begins May 20.

This year the committee has three times going to the approval of new biotech cotton species. Some of the new species, such as MRC-630 of Mahyco, Ankur 651 of Ankur Seeds, and NCS-145 Bunny Bt and NCS-207 Malika Bt can be grown in both central and southern India. As the fibre2fashion, the total number of biotech cotton hybrids approved for commercial cultivation in 2005, accounting for 17 species, including Mech-12 Bt, Mech-162 Bt and Mech-184 Bt of Mahyco-Monsanto and RCH-2 of Rasi Seed, which has grown.

At the meeting on 3 May, the Committee banned the cultivation of Mech-12 Bt in South India because of its poor performance in the region. Favorable? S conditions for the cultivation of the hybrid - the central part of India (states such as Muharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgar).
