INDIA: GROWTH cotton consumption

In the 2005-06 fiscal year, the textile sector is expected 58% increase in the consumption of cotton. This is due to a continuous supply of cotton and low cost relative to synthetic fiber and yarn. In 2004-05, the consumption of cotton was about 55.5%.


In the current year is expected to increase consumption to 20.4 million bales. The growth of cotton consumption in 2004-05 was due to the high prices of petroleum products. To meet the growing demand for textile garment industry sector in India to grow by 4-5% per year. More than 95% of the yarn produced in the organized sector (large spinning mills and factories). Weaving industry mainly produces delivery of the informal sector (small spinning mills, workshops mechanical and manual looms, knitting enterprises), where machine tools produce 60% of all apparel products on hand - 18% and knitwear factories - 17% . In a country with a developing economy the demand for sewing production will grow by 5.6% this year.
