Commission for Foreign Trade of Brazil (Camex) has decided to support the local steel industry to temporarily raise the import duty to 25% for 100 kinds of steel products, including products of steel, aluminum and copper.

In particular, the restrictions relate to hot-rolled steel sheets, heavy plates, wire rods, stainless steel sheets and coils, coarse-grained silicon steel, pipe and fittings. In addition, the list will include aluminum sheet, foil, wire and cable, and copper pipes.

The list of goods has been formed on the basis of proposals from the Brazilian private companies and local industry associations.

As noted in the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil, the countries of the Mercosur trade bloc - Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela will support and approve the proposal in early October. The fees will be valid for 12 months with the option of renewal for another 12 months to the end of 2014.
