CO-PROCESSOR INTEL XEON PHI OFFICIALLY PRESENTED

Co-processor INTEL XEON PHI officially presented
CO-PROCESSOR INTEL XEON PHI OFFICIALLY PRESENTED

Intel introduced a co-processors Xeon Phi, announced this summer. The manufacturer calls this event is the culmination of many years #39;research and co-operation#39;. The task of co-processors Intel Xeon Phi - improved performance supercomputer systems on tasks with a high degree of parallelism. Their basis is the architecture of Intel Many Integrated Core (Intel MIC).

As conceived by Intel, Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors feature the Intel Xeon E5-2600/4600 in scientific and engineering applications.

The advantages of Intel Xeon Phi manufacturer considers the use of developers familiar programming languages, parallelism models, approaches and tools for software development for systems based on the architecture of Intel. The creators of the application is not bound by the limitations inherent programming model of other accelerators. To optimize the program based on the use of Intel Xeon Phi company offers protection Intel Parallel Studio XE and Intel Cluster Studio XE.

The first saw the light produced by 22-nanometer technology family of Intel Xeon Phi 3100 and 5110P.

In the first case, the capacity for double-precision operations than 1 TFLOPS. In the configuration of the accelerator consists of up to 6 GB of memory with a capacity of 240 GB / s and supports ECC. TDP value does not exceed 300 watts. In the case of Intel Xeon Phi 5110P operations on double-precision performance is reached 1,01 TFLOPS though the co-processor has a lower power consumption.

The value of TDP is 225W, cooling - passive. GDDR5 memory capacity up to 8 GB bandwidth - 320 GB / s. According to the manufacturer, 5110P is suitable for systems with a high density layout.

The first customers have already received co-processors Intel Xeon Phi. The intention to release a system with their stated support Acer, Appro, Asus, Bull, Colfax, Cray, Dell, Eurotech, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IBM, Inspur, NEC, Quanta, SGI, Supermicro, Tyan and many others - a total of about 50 companies.

Sales of Intel Xeon Phi 5110P will begin on January 28, priced at $ 2,649. Co-processors Intel Xeon Phi 3100 should hit the market in the first half of next year at a price less than $ 2,000.
