AMD delaying the release 90nm PRODUCTS FOR 2004
Initially, AMD planned in the second half of 2003 to release the 90-nanometer products, including core Athens, built on process technology SOI (silicon on insulator) for servers and workstations, the core of San Diego (desktop) and the core of Odessa for laptops.
However, due to problems in the final verification of SOI technology and slight changes in design, AMD K8 processors do not hit the market until the first half of 2003, which was the cause of sediment release 90-nanometer products.
In order to accelerate the transition to the 0.13-micron production, Intel is also the beginning of the test production on 90-nanometer process in the factory Fab 11X in New Mexico.
