Aluminum electrolytic capacitors consist of two layers of conductive material separated by a dielectric layer. One electrode (the anode) is made of aluminum foil, applied with the oxide layer plays the role of the dielectric. The effective area of the foil greatly increased by electrochemical etching, thus achieving the maximum possible capacity and small package size.
The negative electrode (cathode) is a conductive liquid - an electrolyte and a second layer of foil is used as a contact surface for the passage of current thereto. Repetitive cycles (discharge / charge) lead to a sharp decrease in capacity. However, thanks to the special design of capacitors manufactured by concern EPCOS AG, for 1 million cycles of their capacity is reduced by at least 10%. Capacitors are used in the manufacture of fireproof electrolytes. They contain a special substance that occurs quickly extinguish any flames.
Besides electrolytes designed not only with the technical requirements of condensers, but also taking into account the impact on human health and the environment. They do not contain solvents detrimental to human health and do not require disposal. Because of its quality aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in frequency converters, power supplies and other devices.
