North Korean LEGENDARY HOTEL ÐÞÃÅÍ finally open!
Construction of the legendary North Hotel Rügen is nearing its end - the representatives of the German hotel group Kempinski AG, which will manage the hotel after its opening, said that Rügen is ready to receive its first guests in April of next year.
Construction of the hotel Rügen began in 1987 during the Cold War, and was a response to the construction of the South Korean company Stamford Hotel in Singapore.
It was originally thought that the hotel will have 105 floors and will be the tallest hotel in the world.
Its opening was scheduled for June 1989 for the XIII World Festival of Youth and Students, but because of the huge financial problems of North Korea opening date is constantly postponed, and in 1992, the economic crisis has forced the government to freeze the project.
Construction work resumed in 1998 and has now almost completed - the new date for the grand opening of the hotel Rugen was named in April 2013, when North Korea will celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the birth of founder Kim Il Sung.
